Weekend Vacation; or My Wonderful Husband Loves Me

I am on vacation. My wonderful husband, sensing that I was feeling overwhelmed, told me to go somewhere restful for the weekend. I trust his judgment, so I found a hotel not too far away that was not too expensive and came here Friday evening. It has been a good weekend. I haven’t slept too well because of the normal hotel noises, along with being right next to the lobby and the laundry room, but I still feel rested.
I have worked on a Bible study I will be doing starting in the next week or two. I have organized the last year’s worth of pictures. I have done some reading. I have watched a movie that I’ve been wanting to see. I’ve spent hours and hours by myself.
Yesterday morning, I met Brad for racquetball at the YMCA. (My hotel is only 2 blocks from the Y.) I was able to get there early and do a full resistance routine before racquetball. Usually we can’t do that because childcare is only for 1 ½ hours and with an hour of racquetball and a shower, there isn’t any extra time. I got to see the kids and give them love.
I had to take my car in for its 40,000 mile check-up at Klein Honda. Brad has never had this experience, but whenever I take my car in there, it takes an hour or more past the estimated time to get my car back. I was supposed to have it back at 2:00, and I didn’t get it back until 3:00. Maybe it’s because I’m a woman. I went across the street to IHOP for lunch and the waiter there kept calling me “Sweetie”. It was really annoying. He didn’t call the guy behind me “Sweetie” or any of the women who were there with anyone else. That whole experience with the Honda place and IHOP were the worst part of my day. Once I got back to being alone in the hotel, things went better.
As soon as I’m done with this blog, I’m going to work on my blog about the book Christianity Rediscovered by Vincent J. Donovan. I finished reading it more than a month ago, but haven’t had time to write anything up. Hopefully I’ll be able to post it in the next day or two. I have limited laptop time because my laptop no longer charges when it’s on. It has to be off and the lid has to be wiggled up and down until the battery charge light comes on. Then it has to be checked periodically to see if it’s still charging and wiggle the lid some more if it’s not. So all weekend I’ve been working until it gets down to 25% and then shutting it down to let it repower. My laptop is just over a year old, so it shouldn’t be doing this.
