VBS

I seem to have the need to volunteer for VBS once every few years to remind myself why I stopped volunteering for it. So, I'm sitting here on Friday afternoon a few hours before my last VBS session and suffering a bad headache, upset stomach, and exhaustion, all due to VBS. The stress of it has even caused my 2-3 times a week nightmare of plumbing flooding to be every night. I regret to say that I always emerge from VBS week much less Christ-like than I go into it. I don't know if I should just accept that while I do OK performing at VBS, it is very unhealthy for me and my family (because of me) or if I should feel bad that I'm not letting the Spirit fully inhabit me. Either way I feel guilty and incompetent. Knowing that I won't be volunteering for any children's ministry anytime soon, I already have the phrases that have been thrown at me in the past circling my head: "You're not a team player." "Other people sacrifice to do this too." "Just pray more."

I know that other people have been having a good week, at least it looks like it on their Facebook pages. I don't have many kids in my "crew" (only 3) and they're all really nice kids. I just can't do the noise, energy and late night. Today the kids and I have spent the day all in separate rooms: L watching TV, A listening to books on tape, and me napping and trying to do a few necessary chores. Tonite I'm driving down to Olympia for a swim meet tomorrow morning.
